Q. What are javascripts ?
Javascripts are small pieces of code which you can insert into your HTML document (Web Page) to give you special features like calendars, clocks, buttons, calculators and much more. They are easy to install and use. They spice up your page and give you added functionality.

Q. Do I need to know HTML or Javascript programming to use the scripts ?
Although it is not necessary to know Javascript programming, a little knowledge of HTML is useful. Rediff Homepages Javscripts have been designed in such a way so as to let people with virtually no knowledge of Javascripts use them. By carefully folowing the instructions given with the script you can use them easily. Some of the scripts do require a bit of customizing like adding your E-mail address or your name or require a few values to be modified. You should also be able to decide where you want the javascripts to appear on your page.

Q. I am having difficulty copying/cutting code from the javascript textboxes?

Q. Can I use Javascripts in a template file ?
No, Javascripts cannot be used in a template file. They can only be used in files created otherwise. We hope to have javascripts for templates soon.

Q. If I put more than one Javascript on my page then they do not work.
Sometimes multiple javascripts in a single page conflict with each other, as a result they may not work. This may happen especially if the scripts are large and complex. You can solve this by keeping the number of scripts on a single page to a minimum and by using simpler or smaller scripts. Also less number of scripts will enable your page to load faster.

Q. The Javascript does not work on my page.
The following may be some of the reasons why the Javascript may not be working :

  1. The browser you are using may not be Java enabled. You can solve this problem by enabling the Java option in your browser settings.
  2. That particular version of your browser may not support javascripts. The javascripts require Netscape Navigator 2.0 or above. Most also run on the Internet Explorer 3.0 and above. Try these scripts on a newer version of the browser.
  3. The script has not been pasted correctly into your HTML document. Delete the code already pasted and start fresh. Read the instructions given with that particular script carefully.
  4. Some values in the script may have to be modified like substituting your E-mail address or changing a particular number or value. Read the instructions given with the script carefully and make the changes.
