Q. How do I upload files and images?

Following steps for uploading files and images.

  1. Login to your homepages account. You will be taken to your filemanager
  2. Click on the 'Upload files' link in the filemanager.
  3. When you click on the BROWSE button, it will open up a file directory of your computer.
  4. Browse for the file that you would like to upload.
  5. Please ensure that your filename has no spaces in it.
  6. Select the file. Make sure you select a file of type which is allowed to be uploaded in homepages.
  7. Click on the OK button after selecting the file you wish to upload.
  8. The filename or the path should appear in the text field to the left of each BROWSE button.
  9. Click on 'Upload these files' button.
  10. Depending on the size of the file(s) being uploaded it will take some time to upload. The larger the file(s) size more the time it will take to upload. As soon as the uploading is over you will be shown a message informing you of a successful upload.

Note that although you can upload only 5 files at a time, due to the high speed of uploading process a large number of files can be easily uploaded very fast.

For uploading images from a template follow these steps

  1. Click on 'Add your own image' checkbox.
  2. When you click on the BROWSE button, it will open up a file directory of your computer.
  3. Browse for the image file that you would like to upload.
  4. Select the file. Make sure you select a file of type gif or jpg (bmp files are not supported on the Internet).
  5. Click on 'Use this image'.
  6. Depending on the size of your image file (in kilo bytes) it will take time to upload the file. The larger the file the more time it will take. As soon as your file has been uploaded you will be returned back to the template screen where you can continue working on it.
  7. The image will have been automatically uploaded to your directory and will be displayed on your page.

Q. What is the difference between templates and uploading?
If you are a novice at web programming then the templates are for you. They allow you to create a homepage without writing a single line of code. The designs for the templates are set in advance and only some options have to be chosen for the page to be created.

Now, if you are a advanced user and know how to create your own HTML files then you would requre the upload option. The upload option simply put is a facility by which you can transfer files on your local hard disk to your account(ie. onto the net)

Q. I have uploaded image files but they are not showing in my filemanager.
The reason could be that the options in the filemanager may be set to 'only html files' or 'only folders'. Clicking on either 'All files' link or the 'Only images' link should show the image files as well.

Q. Can i upload zipped files?
Q. How do i unzip the files i have uploaded?
Yes, you can upload zipped files to your directory. But you cannot unzip the file online ie. on the net itself. These files have to be downloaded(saved to your disk) and then unzipped. Zipped files are a good way of distributing a lot of data over the net.
