Q. What is the 'filemanager'?
As the name suggests the filemanager is an online utility which allows you to handle the files in your account.

The functions of the filemanager include renaming, deleteing, editing and uploading files. You can also create folders within the filemanager.

In addition you can also view your files depending on the their type such as 'only html' files or 'only image files' or 'only folders'.

The filemanager is the central place for your homepages account and allows you to effortlessly manage your entire website.

Q. Can I make more than one webpage?
Of course you can make more than one page. You have 10 MB of space to use and it is quite enough to create a good sized web site consisting of many pages.

Q. How do i delete a file?
To delete a file from your homepage account:

  1. Login to your account and enter the filemanager.
  2. Click on the checkbox given in front of the file you want to delete. This way you can make multiple selections as well.
  3. Click on the 'delete files' button at the bottom of the page.
  4. You will be prompted whether you want to delete the selected files or not. If you are sure you want to delete the files then click on the 'Ok' button else click on 'Cancel'.
  5. If you click on "OK" the files will be deleted from your account.

Q. How do i rename a file?
To rename a file...

  1. Login to your account and enter the filemanager.
  2. Within your filemanager there is a 'Rename' option given along with every file.
  3. Clicking on this option will bring up a small window.
  4. Enter the new filename in the text box given in the window.
  5. Click on 'OK' and the file will be renamed. Incase you don't want to change the filename click on the 'Cancel' button.

Q. How do i see only html files or only images in the filemanager?
Within the filemanager there is a menu called 'I would like to see' in which the 'All Files', 'Only HTML files', 'Only images', 'Only Folders' links are provided. Clicking on them will display only the relevant files in the list.

Q. My filemanager is not showing all the files, what should i do?
The filemanager lists only 10 files or folders at a time. if you want to see the remaining files you must click on the 'Next' link given at the bottom of the file list. This will take you to the next page in the list. To go back to the previous page you have to click on the 'Pre' link.

Q. How do I update my page?

Here's how you can make changes to your files...

  1. First login to your account from the main members page with your rediff Id and password.
  2. You will be taken to your filemanager
  3. An 'Edit' option is given along with each file listed in the filemanager.
  4. Clicking on this edit link will allow you to make changes/edit your files. If you are using our templates it will bring you to the edit form. If you have uploaded the file then a small text editor will open to allow you to edit the file online.
  5. After making the changes click on the 'Save' button.
  6. Next open your page in a browser and confirm that your changes have been reflected.

Q. My page has not loaded completely, even when i click on the reload/refresh button.
Keep the Shift key on your keyboard pressed and click on the Reload/Refresh button of your browser (Shift-Refresh/Reload). This will request a fresh page from the server and the entire page will be loaded.

Q. Can I edit files which have been created without using templates?
Yes, there is a basic text editor provided within your filemanager which allows you to upload any text or html file. After editing you can save the changes and the file will be saved in the same location. Note that you cannot edit image files or any other type of specialized file.

Q. What is a folder?
A folder also called a sub-directory is a seperate part of your file system where you can store files seperatley. It is exactly like the folders provided in the Windows operating system.

Q. How do i create folders in my account.
There is an orange box with the Create Directory option at the bottom of the filemanager. Just type in the name of the subdirectory you want to create and click on the 'Go' button. The sub-directory will immediately be created.

Q. When I try to save my page, why does it warn me that the file already exists?
If you already have a file with the same name existing in your account then it will warn you that you already have a file of that name. Two files with the same name cannot be stored in the same directory.
